Humble Pie by Ruth Race Dolan
Synopsis
A Slice of Life 1894 to 1906
Living in the heart of the Cripple Creek gold mining district with its wealthy mine owners and edgy union versus non-union workers, seven-year-old Sarah Conners enjoyed the warmth of Great Majestic stove in a log cabin with her loving parents. She proudly rode to school with her handsome gambler father atop his prancing "Black," until a heart-rending tragedy struck the community, and Daddy mysteriously disappeared.
Sarah's pregnant mother, Elizabeth, baked pies, and her Grandma Conners sewed for other people to keep the little family together during this unique period of American history.
