The Power of Love
Synopsis
As the title implies, The
Power of Love: Be Receptive to Unknown Sources, by Marlow "Red" Severson, is fictional testimony to the
healing ability of love, above and beyond the realm of medical science.
The story begins with the
Kegger Blast, a rite of passage organized by the senior "in" group of a Minnesota high school that celebrates
the upcoming graduation ceremonies. With forbidden antics on the annual agenda, the Kegger Blast is supposed
to be a bawdy, but fun, time for all. But suddenly, everything seems to go wrong.
When one of the injured kids
turns out to be class president, star football player, and popular student Tim Stenson, all attention is
turned to him.
Author Severson's sensitive
treatment of Tim's situation (he lies in a coma) is admirably complemented by his analysis of how medical
treatment is buoyed by the love of family members and friends, and how The Power of Love can truly
overcome even the most difficult of obstacles.
